Bill Summary

SB 1523 directs the Oklahoma State Department of Education to develop statewide guidelines for administering the Presidential Fitness Test in public schools, based on recommendations from the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. Beginning in the 2026–27 school year, all districts would administer the test using these guidelines, which must cover staff training, exemptions for students with disabilities or medical conditions, and a parental opt‑out option, with results used to adjust activity programs and promote the benefits of exercise and good nutrition rather than for grades.

Why It Matters to the Make America Healthy Again Movement

The MAHA Movement supports this bill because it helps reestablish the Presidential Fitness Test as a standard, statewide measure of student fitness, aligning with MAHA’s push to make objective physical performance a key health metric in schools. By requiring clear guidelines, protections for medically vulnerable students, and a focus on using results to build healthier habits—not punish kids—SB 1523 advances MAHA’s goal of a fitness‑centered, encouragement‑based approach to youth health.
